A new partnership between Skype and PayPal will give consumers a new way to send money internationally. Beginning today, friends and family members can transfer funds on the Skype app via PayPal.

This feature is currently available in 22 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom and Canada. PayPal said this was the start of their rollout, which means they may add more countries in the coming months. Skype and PayPal both work nearly everywhere the Internet is available, so there could be many options for global expansion.

To send money on Skype with PayPal, you must have the latest version of the Skype Android or iOS app. The person receiving the funds can have an older version of the app, but both of you must have PayPal accounts which are available for free.

The person sending the money will use the “Send Money” add-in, available on the “Find” tab of an open chat. This will pull up an area to enter a dollar amount, along with the desired currency. If the funds will be converted to another currency, the app will display the amount of money being sent and received in each currency. Money can be sent from a PayPal balance, credit card, debit card, or pre-authorized bank account.
